Finally, while all the discussion so far has been on the pectoral muscles, there is a smaller group of muscles that is worked during your chest exercises that we don’t want to leave out. This muscle group is called the Serratus. These muscles are the smaller ridges that are etched into the sides of lean bodybuilders. They connect the lats to the pec muscles at the edge of the ribcage.

The function of the Serratus muscles is to pull the shoulders forward and downward in the pullover motion. The serratus muscles are impressive when you are lean enough for them to show through. These muscles are trained most effectively by doing chin-ups, the various pullover exercises, and close-grip pull-downs.
